Configuration

Hotkey Settings

Configure keyboard shortcuts for speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and AI chat.

Configure global keyboard shortcuts from Settings > Hotkeys.

Configuring Hotkeys

Each of the three main features has its own hotkey:

FeatureDefaultBehavior
Speech to TextOptionHold to record, release to transcribe
Text to SpeechControlPress with text selected to read aloud
AI ChatFnHold to talk to the AI assistant

Reassigning a Hotkey

  1. Click the Record button next to the hotkey
  2. Press your desired key or key combination
  3. The new binding saves automatically

Supported Key Types

  • Single modifiers — Option, Control, Fn, Command, Shift
  • Modifier combinations — e.g., Command + Shift
  • Key + modifier — e.g., Command + Shift + R

Conflict Detection

Dial8 warns you if a key combination is already assigned to another feature. Each hotkey must be unique.

Enable/Disable

Individual hotkeys can be toggled on/off without removing the key binding. Useful for temporarily disabling a feature.

Reset to Defaults

Reset individual hotkeys or all hotkeys back to their default bindings (Option, Control, Fn).
