Download and install Dial8 on your Mac.

Download

Download Dial8 from dial8.ai. The app is distributed as a .dmg file.

Install

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file
  2. Drag Dial8 to your Applications folder
  3. Launch Dial8 from Applications

Permissions

On first launch, Dial8 will request two system permissions:

Microphone Access

Required for speech-to-text and voice note recording. Grant this in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.

Accessibility Access

Required for inserting transcribed text into other apps and reading selected text aloud. Grant this in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility.

Dial8's speech recognition runs entirely on your device using Whisper. No audio data is ever sent to external servers.

Optional Permissions

Depending on which features you use, you may also be prompted for:

  • Calendar Access — For meeting detection and calendar integration
  • Contacts Access — For importing contacts from Apple Contacts
  • Automation (Mail.app) — For email integration features

Uninstall

To remove Dial8, drag it from your Applications folder to the Trash. Model files are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Whisper/ and can be deleted separately.
