Slow Recognition
Tips for improving speech recognition speed.
If speech recognition feels slow, here are some things to try.
Use the Right Model
Switch models in Settings > Speech to Text:
- Small — Faster processing, great accuracy for English
- Large V3 Turbo — Best accuracy but requires more processing time
Free Up Resources
- Close other resource-intensive applications
- Ensure your Mac isn't in Low Power Mode
- Check Activity Monitor for processes using high CPU
- Higher-spec Apple Silicon (M1 Pro/Max and newer) will process faster
Check Your Setup
- Make sure your Whisper model is fully downloaded (check Settings > Speech to Text)
- Restart Dial8 if transcription seems stuck — the model preloads on startup
