AI Chat

Dial8's AI assistant is a context-aware collaborator that knows your tasks, goals, notes, contacts, calendar, and preferences. It's designed to feel like a knowledgeable partner, not a generic chatbot.

Two Ways to Chat

Voice Mode

Hold the Fn key (or your configured hotkey) to speak to the AI. Your voice is transcribed and sent as a message. The AI's response is spoken back via text-to-speech, creating a natural voice conversation.

Dashboard Chat Panel

A side panel accessible from anywhere in the app. Type messages, attach context, and review conversation history. The panel opens alongside whatever you're working on.

Context Awareness

What makes Dial8's AI powerful is context. The assistant automatically knows:

• Your profile — Name, role, communication style, preferences
• Current date/time — For time-aware responses
• Your contacts — Recognizes people by name
• Active tasks — What you're working on

Attaching Context

You can attach specific items to any conversation via the AI Context Bar:

• Projects — With recent notes
• Notes — With AI summaries, participants, and action items
• Actions — With assignees, blockers, and priority
• Goals — With milestones and progress
• Workflows — With configuration and status
• Browser tabs — With URL, selected text, or full page content

Conversation Modes

The AI adapts its behavior based on what you're working on:

Chat History

All conversations are saved and searchable. Access previous chats via the history dropdown — each conversation has an auto-generated title from the first message. You can resume any past conversation.

Built-in Tools

The AI has access to 70+ tools organized by category:

• System — Calculator, web search, system info, AppleScript execution
• Actions — Create, update, complete, and manage tasks
• Calendar — Read and create calendar events
• Contacts — Search, create, and update contacts
• Email — Read emails, search inbox, create drafts
• Notes — Search knowledge base, create and update notes
• Goals — Manage goals and milestones
• Browser — Navigate, click, fill forms, execute JavaScript
• Canvas — Create and manipulate diagrams
• Clipboard — Read/write clipboard, insert text

You can enable or disable individual tools in Settings.
